Conditions We Work With

What is MeRT
Therapy?

MeRT stands for Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy. It is a neuromodulation technique that uses gentle magnetic pulses applied externally to specific areas of the brain to stimulate activity.

rTMS (repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation) is a precursor to this treatment and has been used by neuropsychiatrists to treat resistant depression and PTSD.

MeRT is similar to rTMS, but it uses a quantitative EEG (qEEG) as a brain map to create a highly individualized treatment plan targeting underperforming brain regions.

The process is more precise, with regular reassessments using qEEG. Because of this, MeRT has broader applications across conditions such as ADHD, anxiety disorders, traumatic brain injury, post-COVID neurological symptoms, and other neurological challenges.

MeRT = Your Brain, Your Plan

First, we create a detailed map of your brain’s electrical activity (EEG). We then use that data to design a personalized treatment plan using gentle magnetic stimulation.

Sessions are conducted in our clinic, last about 30–45 minutes, and feel like a gentle tapping sensation. Most people read, relax, or watch a show during treatment.

Brain Treatment Center
Your Personal Plan

Your personalized therapy plan is tailored to your unique needs, goals, and overall well-being, ensuring targeted care and effective results.

Brain Treatment Center
Treatment Sessions

Each session lasts approximately 45 minutes. Therapy is delivered in a calm, comfortable setting, with targeted stimulation and regular assessments to track progress and optimize results.

Brain Treatment Center
Track Your Progress

After two weeks, a qEEG is repeated to evaluate progress. Treatment is then adjusted based on objective data and clinical response to ensure optimal results.

Treatment Timeline

PHASE 1
Initial Treatment Period (2 weeks)

EEG + Clinical Evaluation

2 Weeks of personalized TMS therapy

EEG + clinical follow-up

After the initial EEG, a personalized treatment protocol is developed for the first two weeks of treatment and follow up EEG. The follow up EEG is essential to evaluate progress and determine whether any adjustments to the therapy are required, based on objective data and clinical review.
PHASE 2
Continued Treatment (4 weeks)

2 Weeks of personalized TMS therapy

EEG + clinical follow-up

2 additional weeks of therapy

EEG + clinical follow-up

Ongoing treatments occur in two-week interval steps, with EEG’s used to review and adjust the treatment as needed.
Note : Treatment duration varies by individual. Your provider will discuss recommended length of care based on your response.

Things Families Often Ask

We believe you should never feel confused or left in the dark. Here are the most common questions we hear.

Do I need a referral to start?

No, you do not need a referral.
We have a Board Certified Physician who is trained to help you determine if this is the right treatment for you. If a referral is needed for related medical conditions, our Physician will work with you to obtain this.

Will my insurance cover this?

Payment is due at the time of commitment or treatment. We do not bill insurance of any kind. HSA or FSA funds may apply when treatment is prescribed for a diagnosed condition. Confirm eligibility with your plan administrator before starting. Flexible payment options available. Ask us at your consultation.

Is MeRT therapy safe?

MeRT is a non-invasive, drug-free therapy with a very high safety profile. It uses gentle magnetic fields—not radiation or electricity—to stimulate brain activity. While some patients may experience a mild, temporary headaches. Please review our Contraindications

Does MeRT hurt?

Not at all; most patients describe the sensation as a light, rhythmic “tapping” on the scalp. You will remain fully awake and can relax, listen to music, or chat with your technician during the session. Because there is no anesthesia or downtime, you can drive yourself home and resume your day immediately. It is a comfortable experience designed to be stress-free for both children and adults.

Who is a good candidate for MeRT therapy?

We treat patients of all ages, including children with Autism or ADHD and adults struggling with PTSD, TBI, or Depression. If you are looking for a data-driven, non-drug approach to “retuning” your brain, you may be an excellent candidate. Please note that we do not treat pregnant patients or those with certain magnetic-sensitive implants at this time. We recommend a consultation to see if your unique brain patterns are a fit for this technology.

How long does MeRT treatment take?

Your journey begins with a 1-to-2 week Assessment Phase to see how your brain responds to the initial stimulation. If we see positive changes, a full course of treatment typically lasts an additional 4 to 6 weeks. Daily sessions are quick, usually lasting about 30 to 45 minutes. We perform regular qEEG brain maps throughout the process to track your progress and adjust your plan.

How is MeRT different from traditional TMS?

Traditional TMS often uses a “one-size-fits-all” approach to treat depression, but MeRT is fully customized to your specific brain. We use a qEEG (brain map) to identify exactly where your brain waves are out of sync before we ever begin. This allows us to “tune” the magnetic pulses to your unique frequency rather than using a standard setting. It is a more calculated, personalized evolution of magnetic therapy.

I am traveling from outside DFW—what support do you offer?

We warmly welcome international and out-of-state patients and are committed to making your stay in Dallas-Fort Worth seamless. While we do not have a formal concierge, our staff goes the “extra mile” to provide nearby hotel recommendations and local logistical support. We are here to answer all your travel queries and help coordinate your visit so you can focus entirely on your recovery. Please contact us directly for our preferred local area guide.

How long do the results of MeRT last?

Results vary by individual, but many patients experience long-lasting improvements that can persist for years. Think of MeRT as “exercise for the brain”—the longer the “training” (treatment), the more stable the new neural pathways become. While many find permanent relief, some patients choose to return for brief “booster” sessions once or twice a year to maintain their peak performance. We can monitor your progress with follow-up brain maps to help determine your long-term needs.

How should I prepare for my first brain mapping (qEEG) session?

To get an accurate “map,” please arrive with clean, dry hair—avoiding gels, sprays, or makeup—and limit caffeine before your visit. We are a sensory-friendly clinic and understand that the 30–40 minute process for setup and recording can feel daunting for some. Our patient staff is trained to provide a calm, neurodiverse-supportive environment for both children and adults every step of the way. The process is completely painless, and we work at your pace with a gentle approach to ensure you feel comfortable and at ease.

I've already tried TMS. How is MeRT different?

Standard TMS uses the same frequency, same brain region, for most patients. If it didn’t work for you, the protocol may simply not have matched your brain.

MeRT starts with a qEEG to map how your brain is currently functioning. Your treatment is built from those findings — not a preset. Throughout care, our physician reviews repeat brain maps with you and this qEEG directs the next treatment.

Results vary by individual. We’d be glad to review your history at a consultation.

Where can I review the clinical research behind MeRT?

You should read the science yourself, not just take our word for it.

We’ve compiled the peer-reviewed studies our physician relies on. View our Medical References page →

Bring any questions to your consultation. Our physician welcomes that conversation.

What role does the physician play, and how is that different from a standard TMS clinic?

At Brain Treatment Center Flower Mound, our Board Certified Physician reviews your medical history and determines eligibility. Your qEEG brain map and personalized protocol is what guides treatment. All other clinical decisions, duration and adjustments to treatment are discussed with the patient throughout the treatment.

In many TMS settings, a technician administers a preset protocol with periodic physician oversight. For the conditions we treat—which include off-label applications such as PTSD, TBI, autism, ADHD, and depression—we believe physician-led, individualized care is the standard, not a premium.

Can I pay for MeRT over time?

We’re actively working on formal payment plan options and will update this page when they’re available.

In the meantime: HSA/FSA funds may apply when treatment is prescribed for a diagnosed condition — confirm with your plan administrator.

Cost should never be the only barrier. Contact us directly if your situation needs a conversation.
